Leeds Playhouse Open Weekend

This weekend Leeds Playhouse opened its doors to all to come and explore the redeveloped building, with our Project Director Nicola Walls in attendance on Saturday.

The theatre was bursting with creativity and energy with pop up performances across the building – from beatbox to Wizard of Oz, Carnival Queen and King to community choirs. Many enjoyed building tours, a ‘story hunt’ around the building, and performances in both the Courtyard Theatre and the new intimate Bramall Rock Void studio space.

It was fascinating to see how people reacted to the reimagined interior and naturally found their way around the building – casually encountering the theatres rather than having to hunt for them – all as we had hoped! And just how versatile particularly the refreshed existing spaces are in terms of reconfiguring to suit a myriad of event and uses – contrasting nicely with the stronger architectural moves made in the middle level of the building.

The enthusiasm for the Leeds Playhouse and all that it does in terms of its professional and participation artistic programmes is evident, with the redeveloped theatre building now offering many more opportunities for innovative and exciting ways to share stories.
